Metropolitan opportunities: the City of Esplugues de Llobregat
Esplugues is a welcoming city in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Nestled between different
strategic connections, it is only 10 minutes from the Airport, 15 minutes from the High Speed
train station or the Fira. And about 20 minutes from the center of Barcelona and its port.
Despite its centrality, Esplugues is a green city. 15% of the municipality is within the Collserola
natural park. The city is full of gardens and parks.
With corners full of charm and with a rich history linked to Gaudà and modernism, Esplugues
was the great center of creation of the sculptor Xavier Corberó. The city hosts the Espai
Corberó, a unique work.
It is a municipality that surprises, with its own personality, and that is firmly committed to
innovation. Esplugues is a laboratory for European projects such as Logismilie, the first urban
freight transport robot. And it has one of the largest digital manufacturing spaces in the
metropolitan area, the Esplulab.
Esplugues is transforming. It is home to one of the main areas of development of the
Metropolitan Area, known as Montesa. It will become a residential space of 110,000 square
meters, full of green areas, with 4,700 square meters of industrial land available and 3,500
square meters for tertiary activities.
In the north of the city, right next to Barcelona’s Diagonal, the SJD Barcelona Children’s
Hospital and the Pediatric Cancer Center, the Porta Barcelona, or Door to Barcelona, project is
being developed, a new 90,000 square meter area for the tertiary sector. A further 3,500
square meters will be set aside for hotel activities.
Industrial estate El Gall covers 155,800 square meters of land and is both the most important
industrial estate in the city, and one that is also in constant change.
Companies such as Nestlé, Coca-Cola, Etnia, Euromadi or Areas; Salvat Laboratories, Aldo
Union, Synlab or Eurofins have all chosen Esplugues to install their offices and business
centers. There are more than 30 large companies, and more than 180 industrial companies.
What is more, Esplugues is promoting the Innovation and Health Biocluster together with
L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.
